Orange Lake

Fished and ran Xtreme Div on Orange Sunday.  Winning weight was down this month to only 22.52 with BB of 10.08.  Flipping bite is a little off lately from what everyone is saying.  Two flippers left early.  Had total of 11 boats. 2nd was 17.93 and 3rd was 16.57.  We finished 6th with 11.11.  Partner had 3 big hits, 2 were defintely bass but the didnt hook up.  Were several fish in the 5 pound range but no other big ones outside the 10.  Water level had dropped a few inches but still no problems with it.  North end of lake looks like a winter frost kill.  Most of the dead stuff is hyician(sp) or cabbage.  Given a month or so to clear out that area will be open to fish pads again.

Orange Lake

Got to Orange this morning for a while.  On water at 6:45 and stopped at 10.  Had 7 fish with a small legal limit by 8:15 largest about 3 pounds.  total about 9 pounds.  Fish stopped biting and it got hot so I left.  Didnt fish the community hole and only saw 3 boats out there as i went by.  4 other boats loaded out same time I did and they did about same, caught a few but nothing big.

Orange Lake

Had a wet line this morning from 715 to about 1145. Not too much to speak of really. Caught 5 total slot fish with none weighing more than 3.5 from flipping pads on PG run. I just started picking up the new technique of flipping and it is certianly ADDICTING, I love the sound of tense braid pulling through lily pads! Today I was throwing a 10.5" Zoom Watermelon Worm, anyone ever use a jig out there flipping?

Orange Lake

The First Baptist Middleburg Bass Club fished a night tournament on Friday 8/13. The fishing was not too good. Had several guys report that fish were hitting top water but short striking, it was hard to get a hook-up. Ditto for me. Also, several short fish were caught. Winning wieght was 7.31lbs., second was 7.11lbs ( they had two dead fish which cost them 1st place) 3rd was 4.32. Not a very good tournament by Orange standards this year. Still love fishing this lake.

One of the guys reported he pre-fish on Thurs. and caught 40+ fish up to 5#. Fishing at Orange seens to be on and off, just need to catch the right day.

Our next Tournament is September 11 @ Palatka City, come join us.

God Bless

Jim

Orange Lake

Fished Orange with the OTHER Bruce today and I'm begaining to think it's against the Bass's rules to have two Bruces fishing together .

We started out about 6:30 am and caught some small fish in Rattle Traps and Senko Swims  and then it was like a switch shutting them down-- just stopped !!

We moved to the weed Mats late morning and were the only boat there -- unlike last Tuesday when there were  almost 20 boats there .

Bruce had several bumps and I had one , but , no hook ups .

We returned north and fished hard , but the wind made it difficult to keep the boat on any kind of position .

 We called it a day a 3 pm .

Bruce let me drive his Ranger and what a change from my little Nitro 60 HP -- when you kick that 200 , it is quite a blast for an old man like me .

Almost as much fun as accually catching fish .

I'm STILL in the hunt for my double digit  Bass from Orange and not ready to give up yet !!!!!!!!!!!

Orange Lake

Well i just joined FBN and told you guys i was on a mission for a 10+lb orange lake bass.  Well here it is......

Report....

Started fishing at 1pm in sportsmans cove and caught a 3lb within a few cast.  The wind started to howl so i ran to get away from the wind. I noticed several boats in the community hole so i shyed away form it and went and tryed something different.  Immediately i got on a good bite, nothing that would win a tx but defineately a limit of solid 15inchers.  A rain storm moved in and as soon as it cleared up i caught a hawg!! aprroximately 10 lbs. 15 oz. All in all i would have had a good day on the water.  The bite is still on out there!!

Orange Lake

Orange Lake was not what I expected today -- Started again at O,dark 30 and fished until 3 pm -- long day and only caught about a dozen Bass .

One might have made 3 lbs and a couple about 2 lbs, the rest were 1-1 1/2 each .

Saw Shaw Griggsby and Terry Scroggens out there flipping the mats -- didn't see them catch anything .

There were a lot less boats there today , I only saw about 10 boats in the Grass Mat area today -- last two times there , there were about 20 boats in that area.

I never had a bite in or around the grass mats today and I didn't see one fish come to anyones boat in that area.

My fish all came along lily pads and grass lines along the shore edges.  Every one of them came on Senko Swims weightless.

My double digit will have to wait until another day !!!!!!!!!!

Orange Lake

Made the trip down to Orange Lake this morning , after reading about ALL those huge Bass being caught there .

I was the only vehicle in the parking lot at 5:30 and I launched and took off looking for the heavy grass mats everyone's been talking about .

Didn't find them in the dark , so I just headed kind of north and found some lily pads and grass to work .

I couldn't get anything going on top water -- not even the famed Devil Horse .

I caught my first fish on a Chrome/Blue Rattle Trap [ 2 lb'er ] and then I started throwing a SenkoSwim weightless and worked it very slow .

I picked up one right at 5 lbs. and another 4+ lb, and caught another 2 lb'er on the Rattle Trap again .

Back with the SenkoSwim and caught several other fish , one was about 3 lb's ,

 In all , I caught 9 or 10 Bass and three Brim/Warmouth?

I figure I had right at 15-16 lbs with the best 5 .

On the way back , I found the Grass mats -- with almost 20 boats all over the grass-- I guess the word has go out about all the big fish coming out of the mats at Orange Lake .

 I picked up 2 fish [ 12"-14" ] in the mats .

I did have one real good bite in the mats that when I set the hook and rolled the fish , the hook bent and I lost the fish -- ya , ya , I know , everybody was talking about better hooks for big fish -- I didn't listen -- old guys are like that !!!!!!

All in all , even though it was really hot out there , I had a decent day.

Met Tony and Wiggywacket [ or something like that ] at the ramp while I was loading the boat -- they didn't get any monsters either .

Sure is nice to have the boat back !!!!!!!!

Orange Lake

Ran Xtreme Division on Orange sunday.  Had 15 boats.  Had waviers because of slot limit but they were only allowed to bring 2 fish 22 or over to scale.  5 fish limit min 14.  Winning weight was 34.05.  Said they had to throw back 2 or 3 that were too long.  2nd was 30.00 with a 10.07.  3rd was 28.55 before penalty for 4 dead fish, one was 10.14.  Official weight was 26.55.  He tried his best to keep them alive but live wells in his gambler acted up.  6th place was 22.28 with the big fish of tx at 10.82.  There were  3 over ten and at least 4 or 5 over 9 weighed in.  10 out of 15 boats weighed in a limit.  I personally didnt fish tx but did put boat in water and was off by 8:30.  in the two hours i did fish caught 2 eight pound mud fish and one bass that was 17 1/2 inches.  one mud had dh crosswise in his mouth and only the line tie was showing.  the other had a buzzbait that was about 9 inches long all the way down his gullet.  Did get it back but not the dh.  As everyone knows Orange is on fire right now.  Saw Peter T there and was told Terry Scroggins and Bernie Schultz(sp)were out there also.  Seems everyone wants in on the action.  As long as they dont take them out or kill them guess its ok.  but those bass have to have seem most everything by now.  That parking lot is full all week anymore.
