Orange Lake
Made the trip down to Orange Lake this morning , after reading about ALL those huge Bass being caught there .
I was the only vehicle in the parking lot at 5:30 and I launched and took off looking for the heavy grass mats everyone's been talking about .
Didn't find them in the dark , so I just headed kind of north and found some lily pads and grass to work .
I couldn't get anything going on top water -- not even the famed Devil Horse .
I caught my first fish on a Chrome/Blue Rattle Trap [ 2 lb'er ] and then I started throwing a SenkoSwim weightless and worked it very slow .
I picked up one right at 5 lbs. and another 4+ lb, and caught another 2 lb'er on the Rattle Trap again .
Back with the SenkoSwim and caught several other fish , one was about 3 lb's ,
In all , I caught 9 or 10 Bass and three Brim/Warmouth?
I figure I had right at 15-16 lbs with the best 5 .
On the way back , I found the Grass mats -- with almost 20 boats all over the grass-- I guess the word has go out about all the big fish coming out of the mats at Orange Lake .
I picked up 2 fish [ 12"-14" ] in the mats .
I did have one real good bite in the mats that when I set the hook and rolled the fish , the hook bent and I lost the fish -- ya , ya , I know , everybody was talking about better hooks for big fish -- I didn't listen -- old guys are like that !!!!!!
All in all , even though it was really hot out there , I had a decent day.
Met Tony and Wiggywacket [ or something like that ] at the ramp while I was loading the boat -- they didn't get any monsters either .
Sure is nice to have the boat back !!!!!!!!
