People are buying them as cool pets until they figure out that they can grow big enough to eat Fido the family dog whole. Then they want to throw the snake in a pond somewhere to get rid of it.

Once these guys are 12 ft long there are no natural preditors. They will kill anything that tries to kill them, with the exception man. Beside pythons they have captured a 12 foot green anaconda. They have 60 to 100 live birth offspring. Grasp the math, they multiply rapidly in an ideal environment. We need to turn loose a army of hunters. With a fat bounty we can stimulate the local economy, and put some people back to work.

etommy28: a few animals will eat them but not as true preditors. but I can promise you one thing at say 50 bucks a head i will sure spend some time finding them.
Florida fish and game said at 12 feet there is little that will challenge them including the panther, and most gators. I believe they are offering more then $50 to licensed hunters per head.

When I go fishing [ or anywhere for that matter ] I don't go without my pistol . I have a Consealed carry permit and can leagally carry , it could come in handy if meeting one of those big snakes , up close and personnal.
I've not yet had to use it , but it's nice to know I have a "tool" that can do the job , if needed .
A 9 mm with a 15 round magazine [ and a spare mag, = 30 rounds ] , I could take on a whole herd of those suckers .

From someone who used to fish in the designated hunting areas, that freaks me out. Most of the time you're fishing in those canals, you're only about 7-10 feet away from the bank. The snake would reach your boat and still have a few feet of tail on land! Those things will get out of control quick if people don't do something to stop them. I think they should make the season longer, though.

A few weeks ago I was out by myself, way South on L67A out of Holiday Park, and I see something crossing the canal about 30 yds in front of me, I thought it was moving kind of weird to be a big gator, so I put the trolling motor on high to get a closer look and sure enough it was a huge python. It just crossed the canal and slithered off into the sawgrass. Had to be close to 10 ft., -It sure crossed the canal on top with No Fear!

Too bad you didn't hit him with your prop.I don't think they will attack a man.Pythons arn't aggressive that way.

I personally would like to say as a snake owner they should round these up and put them in zoos and such killing them because of what the owner did isn't cool

What zoo is going to take 150,000 of these things. If we don't do something soon they will be moving out of the glades and up through the state. They aready shot one 18 feet long behind a business in the Okeechobee town limits. There is a picture of on the internet of 7 employees holding the 200 lb snake up off the ground. They probably will not go after a full grown adult but how about a 3 year old child playing in the back yard of a home? 10 years from now there could be a million.

Brian that must have been exciting! Once they get in that sawgrass they would be impossible to spot. Now is a great time to see one sunning themselves on the levees.

I think saw one at Lox 2 yrs ago, about a mile of the ramp. Something that looked like a snake's head popped its head out of the water to look around and slowly sank , by the time we trolled to the area it was not to be seen.
I do keep a machete in the boat, scared to shoot holes in it. no fish is too small to catch
